Summary

Mayim Bialik confirms that a Blossom revival is happening, with the original cast and creators on board, once the strike ends. The new version of the show may not be a sitcom, but will explore deeper themes and present the characters in a whole new way. Fans of the original show can look forward to seeing how the characters and their relationships have evolved, and the revival is expected to generate a lot of excitement.

Mayim Bialik explains how Blossom’s revival will be different from the original show. The sitcom premiered in 1990 and followed teenager Blossom Russo (Bialik), as she navigated growing up in a house full of men. During its run, the show maintained steady ratings, and earned praise for the depiction of Bialik’s character. Conversations surrounding a potential Blossom revival have been brought up over the years, and Bialik previously revealed that the rest of the cast would be open to returning.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Bialik discussed her hopes for the Blossom revival and explained how it would be different from the original show. She shared that the new version of the show might be less of a sitcom, and that characters would be presented “in a whole new way.” Read Bialik’s comments regarding the Blossom revival below:

I’m happy to tell you that, yes, it’s true. All of the cast and the original creator and producers are on board, and we believe a [revival] can and should exist once the strike ends. We’re hoping to reboot it not as a sitcom, though. We want to bring back these interesting, deep characters—a child of divorce, a recovering drug addict, an alcoholic—to see them in a whole new way.

What Could A Blossom Revival Look Like?

Following Blossom’s conclusion in 1995, audiences continued to praise Bialik’s performance, along with some of the more serious themes introduced. Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see what kind of topics get explored, and how certain relationships have evolved, particularly between Blossom and her father Nick (Wass). Other ’90s sitcoms have been brought back, to varying degrees of success, so it’s also worth wondering how much Bialik’s in particular would deviate from the original, besides the possible change in format.

Because Bialik once talked about the difficulty associated with rebooting Blossom, and considered a campaign of sorts in order to make it happen, fans of the sitcom are likely eager to find out how the cast and crew will finally reunite. Those who watched her Fox show, Call Me Kat, got a glimpse of the characters’ grown-up counterparts before. In an episode, released back in 2022, Joey Lawrence, Michael Stoyanov, and Jenna von Oÿ joined Bialik on-screen, playing themselves on their way to a celebrity event.

Bialik’s comments about Blossom indicate that the long-awaited revival will be happening after all. Although there has been no news outside of that, concerning the story or projected date, the idea of a Blossom revival, nearly three decades from the show’s finale, should lead to a lot of excitement among audiences.
