Fitness trainer John Gaines and influencer Kristy Sarah are shutting down romance rumors as social media users speculate and “ship” them while also mentioning their exes, singer Victoria Monét and chef Desmond Scott.

Kristy Sarah Posts ‘Gym Sesh’ Selfie With Victoria Monét’s Ex, Fitness Trainer John Gaines
On April 23, the mega-influencer shared a look into her day on her Instagram Story. Included was a selfie she posted featuring her and her trainer in the gym. As Gaines, who brands himself as GainsByGaines, flexed his right arm as Sarah threw up the millennial go-to: duck lips and peace sign. Over the photo she wrote, “💪🏼 GYM SESH @/gainsbygaines.” He ultimately reposted the photo and added, “Great work today 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾.”
Their social media posts began trending as users reacted and started speculating. While some users enjoyed the photo of two people putting fitness first, others speculated that their workout went beyond the gym. Some users shut down that nonsense and others were just happy to believe each appeared to be moving on and living their lives after such public breakups.
In September 2024, Victoria Monét and John Gaines announced their split, claiming they separated 10 months prior. They were together for about 4 years and also share a 5-year-old baby girl named Hazel. Meanwhile, Kristy Sarah filed for divorce from Desmond Scott in December 2025 after 12 years of marriage. They share 2 boys: Vance, 7, and Westin, 6.

John Gaines And Kristy Sarah Deny Romance Rumors After ‘Gym Sesh’ Selfie Goes Viral
On April 27, Gaines took to his Instagram to deny rumors and slam headlines, like one that read: ‘Kristy Sarah Sparks Speculation She’s Smashing Victoria Monét’s Ex, John Gaines, To ‘Gym Sesh’ Smithereens With This Selfie.’
Sarah agreed with his comments with three hand clapping emojis. Gaines’ post read:
“Normally I’d ignore something this out-of-pocket, but this is business and I take that seriously. I’ve seen the rumors circulating and I want to address them directly…..They are false.
My training space has always been and will always be, a safe, professional, and strictly platonic environment for every client I work with. Women trust me with their health, their bodies, and their goals. I don’t play about that.
While I understand that social media can create narratives, let me be clear…. I am not in the business of mixing professional coaching with anything personal or sexual. That is not what I stand for and it is not what my brand represents.
I am fortunate enough to work with incredible people and that is because of the quality and care I put into my training.
