If you’re one of these parents out here ducking and dodging your child support obligations while simultaneously “catching flights and not feelings,” The State Department is sending a formal wake-up call…
The State Department just dropped big news, announcing they are officially revoking U.S. passports for parents who are “significant” in the hole with child support.

Now, don’t think you’re safe just because you aren’t owing six figures. While the agency is starting with the big fish, specifically folks who owe $100,000 or more, they aren’t stopping there. Under federal law, the State Department has the green light to snatch your passport if you owe more than $2,500. Once that book is gone, it’s gone. You aren’t getting a new one until that balance hits zero, AP reports.
Stuck Overseas? That’s A Major ProblemThe wildest part of this new energy? They can revoke your passport while you are already out of the country. Imagine being at the airport in Dubai or Tulum trying to head to the next destination, only to find out your paperwork is void… ouch.
If you get caught slipping abroad, you’ll have to do a “walk of shame” to the nearest U.S. embassy just to get an emergency document that allows you to fly back home. No more island hopping until the kids are taken care of.
When Does This Start?
The revocations for the $100k+ club start this Friday, and the rest of the rollout is coming soon. The government says this isn’t just about being petty; it’s about the kids. According to their statement:
“This action supports the welfare of American children by exacting real consequences for child support delinquency under existing federal law.”
So, before you book that next excursion, make sure your paperwork at the child support office is as clean as your vacation aesthetic. Because the only thing worse than a “no-fly list” is being grounded by your own debt.
