Now, don’t think you’re safe just because you aren’t owing six figures. While the agency is starting with the big fish, specifically folks who owe $100,000 or more, they aren’t stopping there. Under federal law, the State Department has the green light to snatch your passport if you owe more than $2,500. Once that book is gone, it’s gone. You aren’t getting a new one until that balance hits zero, AP reports.
