The SAG-AFTRA strike has finally come to an end after 118 days on strike. Last night, the actors’ guild and the studios reached a tentative deal on a new contract, which means Hollywood will be up and running again within the next few weeks. This is fantastic and exciting news!
The strike officially concluded at 12:01 am PT on Thursday, November 9. While the details of the deal have not been disclosed yet, they will become public after it goes to the board, whose members are expected to sign off on it on Friday.
Once the board approves the deal, eligible members of the 160,000+ actors’ guild will vote to ratify the new agreement. After that, actors can get back to work, and all the stalled film and TV projects can resume production. The Hollywood machine will start operating again, producing entertainment.
According to Deadline, “Overall, the six months of Hollywood strikes are estimated to have cost the Southern California economy more than $6.5 billion and 45,000 entertainment industry jobs, as production ground to a halt when the WGA went on strike in early May, and SAG-AFTRA followed suit in mid-July.” Many people experienced financial hardship, with industry workers having to go without income for months.
It’s good to know that all these individuals who have been struggling will be able to start working again, from the actors to the crews who bring these films and TV shows to life. That’s the best thing about this news.
