A video is going viral showing Taylor Swift, 33, seemingly “gasping for air” during her scorching hot concert in Brazil the other night, where fans begged for water before one fan died. The victim’s father is now also speaking out.
As we previously shared, a tragic incident occurred at Taylor Swift’s concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Friday (November 17). A 23-year-old fan named Ana Clara Benevides, tragically passed away as Swift’s Brazil ‘Eras Tour‘ show began. It sent shockwaves of sadness among the attendees and the Swifties across the world.

Reportedly, Benevides, who was in the front row of the show, “fainted,” suffering a cardiac arrest event due to the extreme temperatures in the Estádio Olimpico Nilton Santos stadium, which soared to over 140 degrees Fahrenheit, reportedly causing “a thousand faintings during the event.”
After the victim was “resuscitated at the stadium for about 40 minutes,” she was transported to a hospital, where she experienced a second cardiac arrest while en route. It’s also noted that the “Shake It Off” singer and her team were well aware of the condition at the venue, and they all made it their priority to ensure fans were well hydrated. At one point, Swift even halted her show to throw a water bottle into the crowd.
In videos going viral, she can be heard saying, “There’s people that need water right here, maybe 30, 35, 40 feet back. So whoever is in charge of giving them that, just make sure that happens. Can I get a signal that you know where they are? Do you see the phones?” Meanwhile, fans can be heard chanting, “Water, water, water, water.”

Later in her show, Taylor Swift continued to perform while throwing more water bottles into the crowd. However, despite all of her great efforts, tragedy still struck and one fan died. Following the tragic event, the singer expressed her deep sorrow over the incident, emphasizing her devastation upon hearing the news.
In a heartfelt letter shared to her Instagram, the singer said, “I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but it is with her shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young. I’m not going to be able to speak about this from the stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it. I want to say now I feel this loss deeply, and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring the store to Brazil.”
Shortly after, Swift sent another post to her Instagram, noting that she would be postponing a second concert in Brazil due to the dangerously high temperatures. She wrote, “I’m writing this from my dressing room in the stadium. The decision has been made to postpone tonight’s show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio. The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first.”

Following Taylor Swift’s statements, videos have since gone viral showing the singer herself “gasping for air” as she stood on stage and performed. Commenting on the videos, one fan wrote, “She is only 33 and in incredible physical shape. That she was struggling that much is really scary.”
Another commenter speaking on Swift “gasping for air,” said, “OMG… this breaks my heart on so many levels. She’s so professional but watching her like this, my best wishes go to her. I’m also thinking about fans that had to endure those crazy temperatures… take care people and stay healthy!”
Meanwhile, the father of the victim has also spoken out following the death of his daughter on Friday. 53-year-old José Weiny Machado spoke to Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo about his dear daughter and Taylor Swift fan Ana Benevides.

According to the Hindustan Times, Machado said, “I lost my only daughter, a happy and intelligent girl. She was about to graduate in psychology next April, saving money. I have no words to express my pain. She left home to fulfill a dream and came back dead.”
Machado also demanded that an investigation be launched into the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death, bringing forth the issue where fans were demanding water due to the sweltering temperatures.
The father urged, “I want it to be found out whether they were in fact prohibited from bringing water, whether there was negligence in providing assistance. I know that the singer was handing out water to her fans, and that is absurd for an event of this size. Nothing will bring my daughter back, but I hope that, if negligence is confirmed, someone will be punished, so that this doesn’t happen to anyone else.”
