Netflix’s ‘Frankenstein’ Trailer Has Fans All Saying the Same Thing

Zack Snyder’s latest big-budget effects-driven feature, an awards contender from Todd Haynes, Bradley Cooper’s sensitive portrayal of an American icon, a beloved followup to an Aardman classic and the conclusion of The Crown are some of the highlights of a jam-packed December schedule on Netflix.

Haynes’ drama May December debuts on Netflix on Dec. 1. Loosely inspired by the story of Mary Kay Letourneau, the film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year, is led by A-listers Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore and also stars Charles Melton, who was named best supporting actor by New York critics this week.

Sam Esmail’s feature Leave the World Behind is another heavyweight addition to Netflix in December. Starring Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali and Ethan Hawke, the psychological thriller tells the story of survival in a world on the brink of collapse. Written, directed and produced by Esmail, the film also stars Kevin Bacon and drops on the streamer on Dec. 8.

December will also the finale of Netflix’s most-awarded series, The Crown. The second part of the final season of the royal drama drops on Dec. 14 and will portray events through to 2005, including the early relationship of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.

Aardman Animation’s long-awaited sequel to Chicken Run drops on Netflix on Dec. 15. Arriving more than 20 years after the first film, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget features the same delightful stop-motion animation that Aardman is famed, as Ginger, Rocky and the gang try to evade humans and head for an idyllic bird sanctuary.

On Dec. 20, Maestro, Bradley Cooper’s biopic of composer Leonard Bernstein, hits Netflix. The film, which is getting early Oscar buzz, depicts Bernstein’s marriage to Felicia Montealegre (Carey Mulligan). As well as playing Berstein, Cooper writes, directs and produces the film, which launched at the Venice Film Festival in September.

Snyder, who recently covered The Hollywood Reporter, brings Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire to Netflix on Dec. 22 after a short theatrical run. The film, the first part of two features that cost a combined $167 million to produce, is an old school space opera and stars Sofia Boutella as a warrior who incites a galactic rebellion.

Movies added to Netflix in December include a slew of DC titles: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Birds of Prey, Shazam!, Suicide Squad, The Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984 and Man of Steel. Also hitting Netflix is Black Swan, Blockers, Boyz n the Hood, Burlesque, Insidious, L.A. Confidential, The Meg, Neighbors, She’s All That, She’s the Man, Taken and Taken 2.
