Suge Knight has said that his viral tweet assigning responsibility for the death of 2Pac was “fake.”

On Saturday (December 23), Knight posted to Instagram that a message from his Twitter account just one day prior was phony.

“This Twitter account has been hacked,” he wrote. “Fix it.”

The initial tweet, posted on Friday (December 22), claimed that Knight knows who is responsible for 2Pac‘s death nearly 30 years ago.

“This guy little guy is responsible for the demise of 2pac,” the message read, while posting an old candid photo of Knight with Pac and a man named Trevon “Tre” Lane, which Lane said on social media was taken back in 1996 during a trip to Belize.

Lane has not commented about Suge’s tweet. Knight, as mentioned above, responded the following day via Instagram to deny its veracity.

While Lane’s name isn’t often mentioned in stories about the events of September 7, 1996, a former cop assigned to 2Pac’s murder investigation told KTNV that Lane’s tangential connection to Death Row may have contributed to Pac’s demise.

“[Orlando] Anderson had previously been involved in a conflict with members of Death Row’s entourage and members of a gang called the Mob Piru, affiliated with Death Row Records. And an individual named Trevon Lane had his Death Row medallions stolen from him at a mall during a beef between the Crips and the Bloods, and Lane was in Vegas with Tupac,” said Greg Kading. “He pointed out across the lobby was one of the guys that stole his chain.”

That was when, Kading says, Pac punched Anderson and set off the chain of events that ended with the rapper’s murder.

Additionally, Mob James — a former associate of Suge Knight’s — told The Art of Dialogue back in 2021 that Lane should be held accountable for 2Pac’s death. Like Greg Kading, James said that Lane the one who pointed Orlando Anderson out to the rap star.

“[2Pac] didn’t know who Orlando was,” James said. “He didn’t know that guy from jack shit… [Trevon Lane is] the only one, because of that altercation at the mall, who knew Orlando…

“So 2Pac didn’t just run up on a random mothafucka and take off. Trevon told him, period, point blank.”

Lane has not been charged with any crime, then or now, in connection with 2Pac’s murder.

Suge Knight has questioned many peoples’ roles in 2Pac’s death through the years — including, most recently, Snoop Dogg.

Last month, in an explosive segment on his podcast Collect Call, the currently incarcerated founder of Death Row Records — who was in the car with ‘Pac the night he was shot in Las Vegas — openly wondered about Snoop’s role in the death of the rap legend.

When asked about Diddy’s alleged involvement in ‘Pac’s murder, Knight turned his attention to Snoop and said he wanted a face-to-face talk with his ex-signee, who now owns Death Row.

“As far as the Puffy situation, I really, really, really gotta have a real conversation with Snoop,” he said. “I knew that ‘Pac did everything right by him by putting him on All Eyez On Me, speaking about him, and being real with him.

“And if it’s true what they say, face-to-face it’s gonna be a lot of explaining to do.”

Knight made several other claims, including that Snoop Dogg told Tha Dogg Pound rapper Daz Dillinger not to go to Vegas with the rest of the Death Row crew the night of September 7, 1996, as “something’s gonna happen.”
