Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Jason Momoa recently shared the story of what his first experience was like auditioning for a DC movie. He had no idea who he was initially auditioning for and after the long confusing process he learned that he was cast as Aquaman, and his response to the shocking news was hilarious. Momoa explained to Fandango:

“Well, I originally thought I was going to be playing Lobo in the very beginning because, I got called in, I auditioned for Batman. And, I almost didn’t do it. Because I was like, ‘This is silly. It’s not going to be me. Why am I auditioning for Batman?’ But, it was just a run-of-the-mill audition. And then, I get called in right after and it gets announced. I’m like, ‘Oh f**k, of course I’m going to play the bad guy.’ There’s not too many guys that can kick the s**t out of those two. So, I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll come in, beat ’em up and diem like I do.’

So, Momoa thought he initially was auditioning for Lobo so when he got called in to be offered the role his expectations were in a completely different place. He went on to share how he learned he was playing Aquaman and his amusing response:

“Anyways, I got called into the office and it was just like, ‘Well… do you know who you’re going to play?’ And I’m like yeah, Lobo! Yeah, of course, he’s the only one that can fight Batman and Superman. He’s like, ‘What?! Lobo? No, he’s not in this universe.’ I was like, ‘What? Who the hell am I supposed to play?’ Man, I wish I would have taped it, because he was like ‘Aquaman.’ I was like, ‘What the f**k are you talking about.'”

You really couldn’t ask for a better response to an actor being cast as Aquaman, “What the f**k are you talking about?” That made me laugh.

Anyway, Momoa’s time as Aquaman is coming to an end with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and after that he will finally be playing Lobo, a role that he wanted from the very beginning, and it’s a role that he’s going to be awesome in. When talking about Lobo, the actor said:

“So, Lobo… I used to collect comics and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite. And I’ve always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello?,’ It’s pretty perfect. It’s the perfect role. I mean, listen, if they call me and ask me to play it? It’s a f**k yeah. But, I mean, that’s a guarantee. So, you don’t have to worry about that.”

Are you looking forward to seeing Momoa play Lobo in James Gunn’s DCU?
