This article contains spoilers for The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart episode 5.It seems that Amazon Prime Video’s The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart is growing more intense with each episode as secrets continue to be uncovered, and the characters come to terms with their pasts and mistakes in episode 5 of the series. The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart is an Australian drama based on a novel by Holly Ringland. The story follows the life of Alice Hart, a woman who, as a child, becomes orphaned during a fire, and grows up with her estranged grandmother on a mysterious flower farm. The series has one season so far with episodes being released each Friday on Amazon Prime Video.
The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart episode 4 changed the script of the show drastically when the series saw a fifteen-year time jump. Suddenly, Alice was no longer 9-years-old like in The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart episodes 1-3, and instead, was an adult woman with a mysterious reason to run away from Thornfield without alerting her grandmother June or the rest of her family. In episode 5, this storyline continues with Alice settling in at Agnes Bluff and June facing the chaos she has created. All in all, the episode plays out the consequences of the characters actions and uncovers even more secrets hinted at in previous episodes.
10 Alice Breaks Up With Moss
Although Alice seemed to have something romantic brewing between her and Agnes Bluff’s kind veterinarian, Moss, their relationship was ultimately short-lived as Alice reveals in episode 5 that she broke things off with him. Alice first met Moss in the previous episode when she arrived at Agnes Bluff with a stray dog named Pip. When Pip became sick, Alice brought him to Moss and the two had a fliratious spark and a one-night stand. However, the relationship already seemed doomed when Alice later came into contact with the mysterious park ranger Dylan. Episode 5 confirms that Moss is out of the picture for the time being.
9 Alice Becomes A Park Ranger
Another major change for Alice is that she becomes a park ranger. After meeting a flurry of workers from the local national park in episode 4, Alice decides to become a park ranger herself. It’s clear throughout the episode that this job fits her character perfectly, and she seems pleased with her new home in the park. Furthermore, Alice uses the skills she picked up at Thornfield to identify the park’s flowers and fauna. Overall, Alice’s decision to become a ranger roots her in Agnes Bluff and seems like a sign that she is ready to move on from the secrets of Thornfield.
8 June Is Dying From Cancer
Meanwhile, back at Thornfield, June discovers that her cancer has not gone away. In The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart episode 4, June undergoes a procedure that would potentially rid of her cancer, however, this latest episode reveals that the surgery wasn’t entirely successful. Although treatment options are made available, June declines and keeps her condition a secret. Fortunately though, Candy calls June’s doctor and discovers the truth. Due to June’s condition and her decision to not get treatment, her fate has become much darker than it previously was.
7 Alice Starts A Romance With Dylan
It isn’t long after Alice breaks things off with Moss and starts working at the national park that she begins a romance with Dylan. The two had immediate chemistry from their first meeting in episode 4, and in episode 5, they finally break the tension and sleep together. Over the course of the episode, their relationship seems to move fairly fast as well. They attend a party as a couple, and later, Dylan takes her on a romantic road trip to a local gorge. Alice seems happy with this development, although her friend Lulu warns that Dylan can be a lot.
6 Twig Meets Charlie For The First Time
After The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart reveals Charlie’s identity as Clem and Agnes’ long-lost son, June’s wife Twig leaves Thornfield in order to meet her grandson and find Alice. Twig and Charlie have a tearful introduction, and the two set the record straight about June’s secrets. Namely, Twig reveals that Alice never received any of Charlie’s letters, and in actuality, has no idea he exists. When John reveals that he believes Alice is in Agnes Bluff, Twig decides that that is where she’ll go next. Charlie asks to accompany her, but she declines, promising that she’ll tell Alice everything as soon as she finds her.
5 Dylan May Not Be Who He Seems
Although Alice’s romance with Dylan seems to be a whirlwind for her, there are some notes of negativity staining their newfound love. This begins when Lulu tells Alice to be careful with Dylan, insinuating that they once had a relationship that went bad. From there, Dylan takes Alice on a trip, and when Alice asks if he brought Lulu there, Dylan has an emotional outburst and leaves her alone in the dark for several hours. Despite the fact that Dylan apologizes and seems committed to Alice, his possessiveness and declarations seem more dangerous than sweet, hinting at a violence that parallel’s Alice’s father.
4 Clem Assaulted Candy
Of The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart cast, Candy Blue has been somewhat of a mystery. Although she is Twig and June’s adopted daughter, it’s clear that June and Candy have a strained relationship. In episode 5, it is revealed that this is because June caught Clem assaulting Candy when she was 13. Although both Clem and Candy claimed that they loved each other, Candy’s age horrified June and put a chasm between them. In the present day, Candy demands that June face her and the horrible event she discovered in order to give Candy the love she deserves.
3 June Is The Reason Clem & Agnes Fell In Love
The second part of Candy’s revelation is June’s reasons for distancing herself from Candy. After Candy confronts June for being unable to look at her, and more than that, replacing her with Agnes, June reveals her side of the story. She notes that she didn’t replace Agnes with Candy, but instead, orchestrated a relationship between Clem and Agnes so that Clem would leave Candy alone. This is a bittersweet revelation because it shows June’s love for Candy, but also, acknowledges that June played a part in Clem and Agnes’ romance and eventual abusive relationship. Once again, June’s secret keeping and subtle control makes her appear both caring and selfish.
2 Alice Reveals That She Set Her House On Fire
The most significant reveal of The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart’s story is that Alice is the one who set her house on fire. Alice reveals that she always dreamed of setting her father on fire, and one day, she actually did. She notes that because of her father’s abuse and her mother’s pregnancy, she decided to steal some kerosene and set her house on fire. Clearly, the incident racks her with guilt, especially considering the death of her mother and younger sibling, and Dylan comforts her. This revelation also seems to become clear to Twig when Sally brings up the coroner’s report that June or Twig never read.
1 June, Candy, & Twig Are Going To Find Alice
The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart episode 5 ends with June, Candy, and Twig venturing out to Agnes Bluff to find Alice. Twig is on her own, leaving from Sally and John’s house, while June and Candy travel together from Thornfield. Overall, this trip to Agnes Bluff is sure to cause some major problems in the season’s following episodes, as Alice will no longer be able to run from her past. It seems most likely that Twig will tell Alice about Charlie and Alice will finally have a face-to-face confrontation with June. The next episodes of The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart are sure to successfully continue this dramatic and complex story.
