Heather Gay is getting real about the body positivity she previously promoted on the first four seasons of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
According to the RHOSLC OG, her body positivity was “a big lie” and that she is happier being thinner since taking Ozempic to lose weight.
The 49-year-old responded to claims she’s sold out instead of embracing herself after taking Ozempic to lose weight.
“I’ve sold out, I’ve given up the banner of you know, accept yourself. And it’s disappointing and sad to know that body positivity was all a big lie,” Heather Gay said while speaking on ABC’s Impact x Nightline.
“It is better not to be overweight.”
Heather Gay noted how “everyone” she knew was taking Ozempic or something similar to lose weight and that they were “bragging” about “how great it was and magical.”
The Bravo star detailed how she has been body-shamed by RHOSLC fans and co-stars for her size. Mary Cosby infamously questioned if Heather Gay’s Gucci corset from season 4 of RHOSLC was authentic because she didn’t think Gucci made clothes in “a size 14.”
“I didn’t want to show up at another party and see all of my friends 20 pounds thinner and just be resentful,” Heather Gay confessed before admitting that she felt “pressured” to take Ozempic as her “last hope.”
However, the reality star claims she’s been treated better by costars and fans since losing more than 20 pounds.
“I started to feel seen for the first time — even after being on television, writing a New York Times bestselling book. For the first time, I was being valued by my castmates, by the public, in a way that I had never been valued before. And that felt to me … sad.”
Last November, Heather Gay first revealed to PEOPLE that had been taking Ozempic “for a long time” but “hadn’t really seen much results.”
“And I haven’t had massive results, but enough for people to notice, which is great,” she added.
RHOSLC will return for season 5 in late 2024.
