Michelle Williams is opening up about her experiences with fame, criticism, and self-acceptance in a candid interview with Rolling Stone Australia.

The former Destiny’s Child member who achieved great success in various fields such as music, Broadway, TV, philanthropy, and mental health advocacy, often faced criticism for being the “least known member of the group.” However, instead of letting the negativity bring her down, Michelle has chosen to embrace her status and turn it into a source of empowerment.

One of the ways Michelle has tackled the criticism head-on is through her partnership with Uber, where she humorously addresses the #PoorMichelle memes that have circulated online. She also jokes about people not knowing who she is despite her many accolades. In response to the jokes about her perceived lesser fame compared to her Destiny’s Child bandmates Beyonce and Kelly Rowland, Michelle confidently stated, “Money isn’t everything, but I love that I make a living out of doing what I love to do. So, while [people] are making fun of me I just left the bank.” The 44-year-old went outreflected on a particularly embarrassing moment from her past – her fall on live TV during an appearance on ‘106 & Park’ in 2004.

Despite the incident being a source of public scrutiny and ridicule, Michelle shared that it took her years to watch the footage because of the way people reacted to it. She expressed frustration at the exaggerated response,

“When I fell on live TV it took me years to watch that because people made such a big deal about it,” she relayed before sharing it took her “a while to get over it” because people acted like she’s the “only human on the planet to fall.”

This is not the first time she addressed the viral moment. The singer previously pointed out that she is not the only star to suffer an on-stage mishap. She said this during a passionate rant during an appearance on Larry Reid. “I fell one time!” she insisted.

Despite this unfortunate memorable moment, one thing about Michelle, she’s always going to get back up.
