Did QVC Just Win April Fool’s Day With The ‘Bologna Folder’?

Many people who watch QVC regularly will consider buying anything host Mary DeAngelis is selling because she’s just that convincing!

Back on April Fool’s Day 2002, DeAngelis had people scratching their heads with the new and inventive product she was selling until they realized it was just a really good April Fool’s prank!

Yes, you read that right – a bologna folder. Who wouldn’t need such an inventive product to do the dreadful work of folding your bologna for you? And what a bargain at only $22.76!

“We’ve got something brand new. We’re so excited to introduce you to it. It is a bologna folder,” DeAngelis said on air at QVC last April Fool’s Day. “Look at it! It is big! You’re gonna wanna clear off your counter. You’re not gonna be able to store it.”

DeAngelis, being the pro that she is at selling anything and everything, didn’t once stray from the task. No breaking into laughter or stumbling over some of the ridiculous things she was saying to sell this product.

“A bologna folder solves multiple problems. It’s going to organize your bologna. It’s gonna save you more space in the refrigerator and on your shelves, wherever you store your bologna,” she continued enthusiastically. “And since there are 1,900 different types of bologna in the whole world, we gotta get a handle on this situation.”

As she’s explaining the necessity of this new-fangled product, she’s also demonstrating its greatness.

“First, you’ve gotta grease this machine. You’re gonna wanna grease this twice a day,” she said. “Now, first slice of bologna perfectly placed. See that circle? If it’s bigger than that circle, it ain’t bologna. So that’s the first thing the machine’s doing for you.”

Then a lightbulb goes off in DeAngelis’ head when she realizes she has the machine “set to thin.”

“Now we know we can organize the bologna, there’s one thin stack. Here’s another slice of bologna,” she continued as she demonstrated all the wonderful things this oversized machine can do.

The next slice of bologna was a “thick slice” so it had to be “organized” off to the side, which is another super helpful function of this machine.

No one likes folding bologna to put it on a sandwich, right? Well, the bologna folder will take that chore away and make your life a little easier. While demonstrating how the machine folds the bologna, DeAngelis goes through a little “learning curve.”

“Folded beautifully,” she said. “And then you take it and you stack it.”

Then it was time to discuss the cool colors this machine comes in, which is important since it’s so oversized and will likely end up living on your kitchen counter in full view of everyone who enters the home.

“So we have it in black and aqua, tan, taupe coming soon, beige, greige, oh that sounds fun,” she said with excitement in her voice. “We also have it in puce, that’s fresh. Then we have it in bone and a color called yellowish.”

DeAngelis then gave the great news that “we have every single one of them in stock!”

“The price is $22.76 and the easy pay, $11.38,” she informed everyone getting ready to order. “So don’t miss out.”

While this is a two year-old joke, DeAngelis reshared the clip on her TikTok page this April Fool’s Day and it went viral with more than 1.6 million views and thousands of comments.

“This is how they should audition people for QVC ‘sell me a bologna folder,'” one person said in the comments. Another added, “Good lord..if my mom saw this legit April Fool’s ad she’d still try to buy it.”

Many others enjoyed watching the skit and shared their jokes and thoughts in the comment section.

“QVC understood the assignment,” one person wrote. Another said, “The fact I knew this was nonsense but I believed every word is why you are THE professional!”

Some shared that DeAngelis was super convincing with her sales pitch.

“Omg, I was completely convinced this was real and my mind was boggled. What a pro,” one viewer shared. Another said, “WTH! Is this real???”

This week wasn’t the first time DeAngelis introduced her TikTok followers to this new home necessity. She shared the clip last year and many viewers had something to say about it.

“Proof how talented these salespeople are because I want one,” one viewer shared in the comments.

Another person totally played along with the joke saying, “I can’t tell you how much bologna I have just falling out of my refrigerator. I used to just throw it in there unfolded until I got this.” DeAngelis replied, “Call our testimonial line the next time you see it on-air.”
