Christina Milian recently expressed support for Cassie Ventura after a video surfaced showing her ex-boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs assaulting her in a 2016 hotel incident. Diddy apologized on Instagram, claiming that he was in a “very dark place” and seeking therapy.

However, Cassie’s attorney and several others have criticized his apology as self-serving and insincere. The footage, obtained by CNN, showed Diddy violently attacking Cassie, but the LA County District Attorney can’t prosecute due to the expired statute of limitations.

Speaking to the DailyMail at the Global Gift Gala during the Cannes Film Festival, Milian expressed her solidarity with her friend Cassie following the circulation of a disturbing video showing Ventura being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend Diddy in a hotel hallway.

The “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” star praised Cassie’s courage in coming forward about the abuse. She said, “I think this sheds light that this happens more often. More often than you think. My heart and my support and my love goes out to Cassie.”

She continued: “She’s actually a friend of mine. And so, for her and her family, I would love on my part to protect their privacy. But I also do believe that I have a lot of love for her and I’m wishing her the best, especially going through something so public.”

Milian emphasized the importance of speaking out against domestic violence, adding: “I absolutely think it’s important for victims of domestic violence to speak up. I think for years, many have, and I think it’s important they continue to do so that we can stop it. I love that they’re gonna make us put a stop to any kind of horrific abuse.”

In response to the video’s release, Diddy took to Instagram to publicly apologize, attributing his actions to being in a “very dark place” at the time. He said: “I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses.”

While speaking directly to the camera, the 54-year-old reflected, “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that. I was f–ked up.”

He continued: “But I make no excuses. My behavior [in] that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now.”

“I went, and I sought out professional help. Had to go into therapy. Had to go into rehab. Had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. But I’m committed to [being] a better man each and every day. And I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry,” Diddy concluded.

Diddy Can’t Be Prosecuted For Assault Because Of Expired Statute Of Limitation

The shocking surveillance footage of Diddy violently grabbing, shoving, dragging, and kicking his ex-girlfriend Cassie in a Los Angeles hotel in 2016 surfaced last week. The video, obtained by CNN, showed the rapper, shirtless with a towel around his waist, chasing the “Official Girl” singer down the hall at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City.

As she attempted to enter an elevator, Diddy grabbed her by the back of her head and slammed her to the ground. He then kicked her as she lay motionless on the floor before seizing the two designer bags she had tried to escape with.

Diddy stood over her, kicked her again, and then dragged her back to their room by the hoodie. Ventura claimed in a since-settled lawsuit that Diddy had paid the hotel $50,000 for the footage after the attack.

After the surveillance footage went viral, the LA County District Attorney announced they could not prosecute Diddy for the assault because the statute of limitations had expired.

In California, the statute of limitations for simple assault is one year, and for aggravated assault, it is three years. Based on this timeline, neither charge could be brought against Diddy.

The Rapper Settled Cassie’s Lawsuit To Keep The Assault Video Hidden

A former special agent, Tracy Walder, recently claimed that the embattled music executive “quickly” settled the assault lawsuit Cassie brought against him because there was footage of him abusing her. She also shared that the rapper “never expected the video to get out.”

According to Walder, the statute of limitations has passed, so a felony assault charge cannot be filed against Diddy.

“Felony assaults in California have a statute of limitations of three years. Since this stemmed from a 2016 incident, she wouldn’t be able to file assault or battery charges in Los Angeles,” the law enforcement agent told People magazine.

Social Media Users Criticize Diddy’s Apology

After Diddy’s public apology, Cassie’s attorney, Meredith Firetog, criticized Diddy, stating, “Combs’ most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt. When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday.”

“That he was only compelled to ‘apologize’ once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words,” the attorney added.

Diddy’s followers also expressed skepticism and anger in the comments under his video apology.

One follower commented, “You swore you did nothing wrong. You gaslighted her and all of us, and ONLY now that the video came out, you’re sorry. Bro, go away.”

Another comment read, “Shame on you! You only apologize because it became public.”
