Mo’Nique was recently seen on the daughter of late comedian Bernie Mac, Je’Niece McCullough’s podcast and she took the time to explain why she’s calls her husband Sidney Hicks daddy.
Now this isn’t the first time the ‘Precious’ actress has spoken on this topic but her response to the question is currently making rounds on social media. “My husband, my best friend, my brother, he’s had all these hats,” she shared. “And, a lot of Black women would say, ‘Why do you call him Daddy?’ Because he’s raising me. He’s raising me. My father probably stopped giving me what I needed when I was around 13 years old.”

“So, now you got a woman that’s 13, and now I’m 35, and now I got a bunch of money, what we considered to be a bunch of money, let me just be real clear about that, and now I got this money and now, I’m taking care of everybody. Who’s gonna check me, Boo? Who’s gonna make me grow up?” She also added that Hicks is has never raised his voice at her, but he will tell her when something is unacceptable. “It was my husband that grew me up,” she noted. “And even at 55 years old, there are still times when he has to say, ‘C’mon, let’s talk,’ and I’m grateful for that because it makes me a better mother. It makes me a better friend. It makes me a better entertainer.”
Mo’Nique is known for her stand-up comedy, and she has released several comedy specials throughout her career. She gained widespread recognition for her role as Nikki Parker in the UPN television series “The Parkers,” which aired from 1999 to 2004. Her performance in the film “Precious” (2009) earned her critical acclaim and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Sidney Hicks is Mo’Nique’s husband. The couple got married in 2006, and they have a son named Shalon Jackson. Mo’Nique and Sidney Hicks have been in the public eye not only for their personal life but also for their advocacy for gender and racial equality in the entertainment industry. Mo’Nique has been an outspoken advocate for equal pay and treatment of Black actresses in Hollywood, which has sparked discussions and debates within the industry.

In more recent news, Mo’Nique has announced she’s suing CBS and Paramount for the allegedly unpaid royalties from starring in the late ’90s sitcom The Parkers. Mo’Nique first made the announcement she shared it to her IG followers saying,“Today we filed a lawsuit to make sure that we are fairly paid money that we are owed for The Parkers.” She wrote. “Actors rely on the good faith of Hollywood Companies to honor their profit participation agreements. The Parkers was a huge success and continues to be a source of revenue through syndication and streaming channels.”
She continued, “To further make my point the Executive Producers of The Parkers took legal action for the same concerns that I have, and they’ve already settled. Unfortunately, all too often, talent gets kept in the dark. We’re looking forward shedding some light on the subject! I LOVE US 4REAL!!”
