Annemarie Wiley Dissed by American Society of Anesthesiologists

Annemarie Wiley has just been put on blast by the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Following the latest episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, which saw Crystal Kung-Minkoff, 40, suggesting Annemarie, 40, had insinuated she was a doctor rather than a nurse anesthetist amid a feud over Annemarie’s many comments about Sutton Stracke‘s esophagus, the ASA shared a post against her on its Instagram account.

“The Real Housewives know a fake … Anesthesiologists are medical doctors with more than 12 years of higher education and up to 16,000 hours of clinical training. Title misappropriation has no place in health care,” read a message on its account on January 19, which was re-shared by Bravo Snark Side on its own Instagram page.

In an accompanying description of anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists, the ASA outlined the differences between the two professions, saying that while anesthesiologists “must complete medical school” and “have 12 – 14 years of higher education,” nurse anesthetists “do not complete medical school” and “have [five] – [seven] years of higher education.”

It also explained that anesthesiologists “complete 12,000 – 16,000 hours of clinical training focused on anesthesia care, pain control, and responding to complications and emergencies in surgery” while nurse anesthetists “complete 2,500 hours of clinical training focused on anesthesia administration.”

In addition, anesthesiologists “often spend a year or more in a fellowship program to learn an anesthesiology subspecialty, such as cardiac, pediatric, neurologic, obstetric, pain management, or critical care,” but nurse anesthetists “do not participate in subspecialty fellowships.”

After the latest episode of RHOBH aired on Wednesday night, Annemarie reflected on her drama with Crystal and the confusion surrounding her profession.

“I said I’m a nurse anesthetist … [Crystal] didn’t know what that was,” Annemarie explained on the January 17 episode of the RHOBH: After Show.

“A nurse anesthetist is an RN that practices anesthesia, and an anesthesiologist is an MD that practices anesthesiology. So we do the same practice. We have the same scope of practice. We just get there two different paths,” she shared.
