Director Paul Feig (Freaks and Geeks, Bridesmaids, The Office) is returning to direct the sequel A Simple Favor 2, which will see returning stars Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick in the lead roles, as well as cast mates Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack.
Now it has been revealed that Academy Award and Emmy Award-winning actress Allison Janney (The West Wing, I, Tonya) is in talks to join the sequel as well. Once the deal is inked, she will also join newcomers Elena Sofia Ricci, Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Alex Newell, Aparna Nancherla, Taylor Ortega, and Lorenzo De Moor.
In the sequel, we see the return of Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively) as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.
The script, which is based on characters by Darcy Bell, was written by Jessica Sharzer, who wrote the first film, with revisions by Laeta Kalogridis and Feig.
I liked the first movie, and I look forward to seeing what they do to move the story forward with the second film. Stay tuned for a release date.
