Nelly is still making sure everyone knows how grateful he is for a second chance with Ashanti, and he proves it with a behind-the-scenes look at her over-the-top birthday surprise.
The “Country Grammar” rapper seemingly surprised the singer with an intimate birthday bash for her 44th birthday. The function was decorated to mimic the fabulous island vacations Ashanti has become synonymous with and as the couple’s newborn son is only three months, it seems Daddy decided to bring the beach to her.
In a behind-the-scenes montage posted by Nelly, the lovebirds can be seen partying with their family and friends while dining on Caribbean cuisine. The rapper’s own liquor brand, MoShine, was pouring and our girl Ashanti was grinning from ear to ear, as usual.
The pair have been seemingly inseparable since reuniting a decade after their on-again, off-again relationship ended in 2013. Nelly and Ashanti are now engaged and welcomed their son, Kareem Kenkaide Hayes on July 18. In her birthday celebration video, the “Baby” singer can be heard giving a speech in which she says she’s “insanely in love” with both of the special men in her life.

The birthday festivities were probably a welcome break for Nelly who has been hard at work touring with his St. Lunatic bandmates and resurrecting early 2000s memories. The St. Louis native recently announced that his iconic Apple Bottoms jean brand is poised to make a comeback.
No word on whether the boots with the fur will also be available again. However, the comments on Nelly‘s announcement seem to suggest that the Aunties were waiting to squeeze back into his denim offerings.
Meanwhile, Ashanti seems to be focused on her new life as a mommy. Aside from a few check-ins from the gym, the singer has been pretty mum on social media. She initially planned her return to the stage after giving birth at a benefit concert for the Pace Women’s Justice Center on Oct. 24, but that event got canceled.
