Kyle Richards has been under scrutiny for her text message exchange with Paul “PK” Kemsley during Season 14 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, particularly amid PK’s separation from Dorit Kemsley. The texts, which Kyle Richards initially hesitated to share with her co-stars, were ultimately revealed in an emotional moment on the show. However, Kyle is now opening up about why she sent the message and why she feels her character has been misunderstood.

During a recent RHOBH After Show, Kyle took the opportunity to defend her actions, clarifying the intent behind her message. She explained that, contrary to what some may have assumed, her communication with PK wasn’t about gossip or betrayal, but rather a supportive gesture during a challenging time.

“Forget how it could be seen or what the audience might think. Everybody here — regardless of if we’re having an argument or how we get along — everybody here knows my character. And they know that I’m not that person,” Kyle Richards stated, stressing that her actions were consistent with the kind of friend she is.

Kyle also touched on the context surrounding her decision to send the message, which had some wondering if she was hiding something. “Another thing, which I did not make a point to say in my interviews, was that … don’t forget that I was coming off of Dorit reading my text message at the reunion. So I’m thinking, ‘I don’t know who anyone thinks they can trust around here right now.’ I also want to be like, ‘I’m someone that doesn’t repeat things.’”

This reminder of the previous season’s reunion — where Dorit revealed a private text message of Kyle’s — was crucial for Kyle. She felt the need to make it clear to PK that he could trust her to keep their conversations confidential, especially during a moment when trust was at the forefront of her mind.

In Episode 7, Kyle Richards finally revealed what the controversial text messages actually said, putting the rumors to rest. “I said, ‘I know you have a lot of friends but I am one and here when you need me. I’ve never repeated anything you’ve shared with me and never would,’” she read aloud to Sutton Stracke, Erika Jayne, and Garcelle Beauvais. “’Will keep sending memes and won’t forget laughing emojis.’ That is what I wrote to him.”

Despite Kyle’s lighthearted message — which included humorous memes — the reaction from her co-stars was mixed. Sutton Stracke admitted in a confessional, “Wait a minute, this is not just about memes and jokes. This is serious talk.”

The tension continued when Garcelle Beauvais reflected on the message, wondering if it implied that there were private conversations that Dorit might not know about. “It didn’t dawn on me until I laid in the bed that night and I ran that through my head and I go, ‘Wait, did she say, ‘I’ve never said anything you’ve said to me and I never will?’ Which made it seem like they talked about things that maybe Dorit doesn’t know,” Garcelle remarked.

For Kyle Richards, the issue was less about what the message said and more about the principles of trust and privacy. She has repeatedly stressed that she is not the type of person to spread secrets or betray her friends, even when the situation gets complicated. Sutton echoed this sentiment, saying, “Kyle is not one to tell friends’ secrets … Kyle can be very private and can hold things that you’ve said to her in private. She’s not that person.”

The issue, of course, was magnified by Dorit revealing Kyle Richards private texts at the previous season’s reunion. “She felt very exploited by Dorit when Dorit did that to her,” Sutton added, referring to the betrayal Kyle felt when Dorit made her personal message public.

While the conversation surrounding Kyle’s text messages continued to unfold, Erika Jayne offered a broader perspective on the nature of texting. She explained, “You can take it like a script. You can take it and make it anything you want. Give me a line read on this. I can make what you text him sound any f–king way I want, and if you don’t understand that, you’re not creative.”

In the end, Kyle feels confident that her actions were innocent and rooted in her true character. “It wasn’t like I was saying this for years,” she clarified, emphasizing that the message was specifically sent in response to a pivotal moment in PK’s life when he might have been feeling vulnerable.

“I will show you guys this, then I’m not gonna do this again. Not for her or anybody. OK? Because I think it’s ridiculous,” Kyle stated firmly, reinforcing her stance that the text exchange was harmless and that she simply wanted to support a friend in need.

Do you think Kyle Richards was in the wrong?
