Soulja Boy is unbothered about the backlash he’s received on the internet for performing at a Donald Trump inauguration ball.

The outspoken rapper, alongside Nelly and Snoop Dogg, have been the target of criticism from fans who felt they betrayed trust when they accepted the invitation to perform at Trump’s inauguration balls.

Nelly defended his decision by stating that he did so as an act of honor and “not for the money.” However, Soulja Boy admitted that money was a motivation.

Soulja Boy Admits He Was ‘Paid’ To Perform At Donald Trump’s Inauguration Ball

Donald Trump is celebrating his upcoming presidential inauguration with a series of festivities, including the Crypto Ball pre-inaugural bash, which was held in Washington, D.C., on Friday, January 20.

Soulja Boy was among the hip-hop stars who performed at the event. However, he was criticized for his performance.

The 34-year-old rapper hasn’t wasted time in defending himself amid the backlash. In an Instagram Live video, he called out former president Barack Obama, outgoing vice president, and Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Soulja Boy said, “They paid me a bag. Obama ain’t never put no money in my f-cking pockets, n-gga. Kamala ain’t never put no money in my f-cking pockets, n-gga. Trump put money in my pockets, n-gga.”

The “Crank That” crooner wondered what the backlash against him, Snoop Dogg, and Rick Ross was about, given that Trump wasn’t even present at the event.

He said, “Y’all suck my d-ck, n-gga. Y’all want me to not answer the phone for the f-cking president? This n-gga [is] the president of the motherf-cking United States. Trump wasn’t even there. It wasn’t even a Trump event. It was the Crypto Ball for crypto.”

Soulja Boy went ahead to state that he would perform again if Trump wanted him to, saying, “And I’ll go again.”

However, the erratic rapper’s nature came to the fore in another part of the livestream when he admitted to being misled about the Crypto Ball.

He said, “I ain’t going to lie, though. Them folks did try to trick me, though. Halfway, I was like, ‘Man, f-ck this n-gga Trump. I don’t f-ck with this n-gga, then halfway, I was like, ‘N-gga, the president.’ You feel me? But whatever, man…the n-gga wasn’t there.”

Besides Soulja Boy, Snoop Dogg also performed at the Crypto Ball. The 53-year-old rapper reportedly performed his hit songs “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Nuthin but a ‘G’ Thang.”

One fan described Snoop Dogg’s decision to perform at the Crypto Ball as ironic and hypocritical.

Another fan said, “SNOOP DOGG IS PLAYING FOR THE CHEETO?! This is actually devastating. I’m so d-mn bummed.”

A third person added, “I say this with all disrespect, F-CK Snoop Dogg and honestly anyone agreeing to perform at this bull sh-t inauguration.”

Why Fans Are Slamming Snoop Dogg And Soulja Boy

The backlash coming Snoop Dogg and Soulja Boy’s way for performing at Trump’s celebration is due to their previous comments about the incoming president.

Both rappers have been critical of Trump in the past with Snoop Dogg often criticizing the president-elect, including in September 2020, when he called him a “racist” for disrespecting people of color.

Meanwhile, in 2019, Soulja Boy blasted Kanye West for supporting Trump, claiming, “That sh-t not right.”

While the hip-hop stars might have their reasons for performing at Trump’s inaugural ball, they would have to do so much more to get their critics on their side.

Nelly Defends His Presidential Inauguration Performance

However, he defended his decision during an appearance on “Willie D Live.” Nelly expressed disappointment that people were being critical despite his past actions.

He said, “I thought you were riding for me because I put on for my city, I didn’t know that I had to agree with your political choices. I thought it was the things you do (that count) not the things you say should be done. If you follow what I do, this shouldn’t be an argument. He’s [Trump] the president. He won.”

Nelly also denied that he accepted Trump’s invitation because of money. He said, “I’m not doing this for money. It don’t matter who is in office. The same way our brothers and sisters go to war to put their life on the line for whoever is in office.”

The “Ride Wit Me” rapper concluded, “So, if they can put their life on the line for whoever is in office, I can d-mn sure perform for whoever is in office.”
