Paul Pierce doesn’t mind giving his opinion and he has a platform where he does that often.
But his take about why Black NBA players date white women sparked controversy this week. Pierce shared his thoughts in a Feb. 24 episode on the podcast he co-hosts called, The Truth After Dark With Paul & Azar.
His co-host, Azar Farideh, brought up the conversation while they played a game. The rules were that they could ask each other any question, but whoever chooses not to answer must take a shot.
She asked the former Boston Celtics player, “Why do you feel like men, especially NBA players get with white women? Is it because they are ‘easy’?”
“I honestly think,” he said, “they appreciate maybe more. And they apologize more.” The answer gained laughs in the room from Farideh and their guest, rapper Guapdad4000. Pierce claimed that white women don’t mind being held accountable.
Before confirming her ethnic background of her mom being Persian and her father being Black, Farideh defended Pierce saying he couldn’t be sure if his theory is correct “because he dates Black women, period. So do not come for him, period.”
She made a point to say this same statement before in the episode multiple times. Guapdad4000 confirms that he exclusively dates Black women. Earlier in the game, he shared that he has his eyes set on singers SZA and Tems. In reference to Pierce, Farideh said, “That’s all he dates too. He’s never dated a non-Black woman and you’ve never dated a non-Black woman. I think that’s so powerful.”
It was here that Pierce cut in and said, “I think dated that’s true. But that could be like changing, maybe, I don’t know.”
Farideh revealed that she got backlash before when she asked this question to Stomp the Yard actor Columbus Short. On The Unqualified As Fu*k Podcast in July 2025, he responded.

“There’s no respect of the man, the Black man, by a Black woman,” he said at the time. Comparing Black women to women of other ethnicities he added, “That Mexican side, that Asian—Korean, Japanese—that other side… Culturally, those women were taught to hold down. It’s more than subservient. Don’t get it twisted; they’ll cuss a man out thoroughly, but you’re still making dinner, you’re still washing his clothes, you’re still cleaning the house.”
He attempted to clean it up by emphasizing that he was not referring to all Black women.
As for Pierce, it’s not clear why his response to the question is just now going viral, however, it got a lot of responses on different platforms.
Spiritual World reposted the clip on Instagram.
One woman in the comments wrote, “Regardless of color, stop comparing the attitude of a woman that you’re treating good to a woman that you treated poorly.”
“Y’all just want a doormat NEXT,” said another.
“They also sue you for $50M when things don’t go their way…but go off tho,” said a commenter, referring to former NFL player Shannon Sharpe. Last month, a white woman in her early 20s who had sexual relations with him for years, accused him of rape. She’s suing him for $50 million. The 56-year-old is additionally facing accusations from his ex Michele Bundy Evans, 53, who claims they dated for around a decade. Evans filed a lawsuit for defamation in 2023.
Pierce has been married twice. He married Dana Davis in 2000 and divorced her in 2004. They had their daughter Janaiya Pierce in 2003. He went on to marry Julie Landrum in 2010, and the couple welcomed three children, their daughter Prianna who was born in 2008, and Adrian, whom they welcomed in 2011. Their son Prince was born in 2013. The pair is no longer together, as he revealed his single status in a tweet in 2023.
