Originally slated to premiere on Starz, the TV adaptation of May Cobb’s bestselling 2021 novel The Hunting Wives has found a new home—and a release date—on Netflix. The eight-episode series will debut Monday, July 21.

The shift from Starz to Netflix follows the recent separation between Starz and Lionsgate Television, the studio behind the series. With Lionsgate now operating independently, Netflix stepped in to bring the dark, seductive thriller to its global audience.

In the newly released first trailer, viewers get a glimpse of Brittany Snow (American Dreams) as Sophie O’Neil, a woman whose move from the East Coast to the piney woods of East Texas takes a deadly turn. Sophie quickly falls under the influence of Margo Banks, a magnetic and mysterious socialite played by Malin Akerman (Trophy Wife). What begins as a tantalizing introduction to an elite circle of glamorous women spirals into a world of obsession, temptation—and murder.

The series features an impressive ensemble cast: Katie Lowes (Scandal) stars as Jill, the assertive wife of a local megachurch pastor; Jaime Ray Newman (Eastwick) plays Callie, the sheriff’s wife and Margo’s fiercely loyal second-in-command; and Chrissy Metz (This Is Us) returns to television as Starr, a blue-collar outsider and devout Christian who never quite fits into the Wives’ polished world.

Rounding out the cast are George Ferrier (One of Us Is Lying) as Brad, a seemingly perfect Southern golden boy with a disturbing relationship with his mother; Dermot Mulroney (Chicago Fire) and Evan Jonigkeit (Sweetbitter) in key supporting roles; along with Karen Rodriguez (Acapulco), Michael Aaron Milligan (Ruthless), and Hunter Emery (Hightown) in recurring parts.

Described as a sultry, suspense-filled drama with plenty of twists, The Hunting Wives is poised to be Netflix’s next buzzy summer hit. Keep an eye out when it drops on July 21—this one promises to be deadly addictive.
