After an eight month hiatus, The Rookie is back in a big way, with season 8 premiering Tuesday, January 6 on ABC!

In last season’s finale, Nolan and Oscar have a confrontation (Oscar gets away) and Monica resurfaces with an immunity deal. Lucy begins her first night shift as sergeant and falls asleep before she and Tim get to have their conversation… leaving it to season 8.

And season 8 delivers. “Czech Mate” is 3 days after the finale. Nolan (Nathan Fillion), Bailey (Jenna Dewan) and Harper (Mekia Cox) are in Prague with the FBI and Monica (Bridget Regan) heading off an international operation. But not everything goes as planned…

Back in Los Angeles, we still have Lopez (Alyssa Diaz), Tim (Eric Winter), Grey (Richard T. Jones), Celina (Lisseth Chavez) and Smitty (Brent Huff) work to fulfill their end of the international deal. It all depends on the timing on both sides of the globe… Wesley (Shawn Ashmore) and Mid-Wilshire’s newest sergeant, Lucy (Melissa O’Neil), find their way into the case.

“Czech Mate” is a confident, fast-paced premiere that reminds viewers why The Rookie remains a standout. With a very important side quest, a classic “makeover” montage, a whole lot of very important snacks, and a twist at the end, season 8 is clearly setting up a big year ahead.

It’s time for some big changes!

(Disney/Mike Taing)

Character of the Week: Monica Stevens

We might hate her… but we love to hate her.

Ship of the Week: Chenford

Lucy had a very long nap… But now she’s awake and it’s time for that overdue conversation with Tim.

Dialogue Teases:

“Nature abhors a vacuum.”

“I don’t know if I can pull off this much reptile.”

“Hizzy? What is this, 1992?”

“Tell it to my ass.”

Do you have any theories for “Czech Mate”? What are you most excited about? Who’s saying the teased lines? Comment below all your thoughts about The Rookie!

Be sure to catch The Rookie live on ABC at 10PM on Tuesdays or catch up on Hulu the next day!
