It’s no secret that the MCU has been shackled by the albatross on their neck that is Disney Plus. It seems as though every series put on to the service was getting a worse and worse score by Rotten Tomatoes. Aside from a few gems in the rough, it seemed as though Marvel’s small screen aspirations were dead. And many wrote off Wonder Man as yet another casualty.
But that isn’t what happened. While Wonder Man doesn’t hit Disney Plus for another day, the Rotten Tomatoes score speaks for itself. People are actually loving the series! Not only that, the project has become the 5th highest rated TV show for the MCU, sitting just above Wandavision and just below Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
What Wonder Man Means For The MCU’s Future
For as doom and gloom as the MCU has been on Disney Plus, the franchise has had quite a few hits. And in a world where the Rotten Tomatoes score continues to dip, it’s important to look at what projects rise above. Wonder Man sits alongside Ms. Marvel, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and X-Men ’97 as the kings of the podium when it comes to Disney Plus shows.
And for any one who has seen each series above, the answer to the MCU’s Disney Plus shows is clear: keep them AWAY from the MCU! While all of the above do have their ties to the broader franchise, they focused first and foremost on telling an engaging story. Often, it’s those risks associated with them breaking from the MCU that cement them as being truly exceptional.
