The latest episode of The Pitt Season 2 left fans on the edge of their seats, and for good reason. Dr. Abbott, portrayed by Shawn Hatosy, can be seen sporting the uniform of a police officer. While the scene was brief, the impact was significant, leaving viewers curious about Dr. Abbott’s surprising new look.

Why was Dr. Abbott wearing a police uniform in The Pitt Season 2?

The latest episode of Season 2 of The Pitt has thrown a curveball, raising more questions than answers. In Episode 7 of the HBO Max drama, Dr. Abbott makes a dramatic return after a notable absence, donning an unexpected police uniform.

Naturally, viewers were left wondering why the former PTMC attending physician traded his medical scrubs for a police vest. It turns out Abbott is also a SWAT Physician for the Pittsburgh Police Department, and his latest mission went awry.

One of his comrades took a high-velocity bullet to the neck during a warehouse robbery gone wrong. Hence, Abbott rushed him to PTMC for emergency treatment.

Dr. Abbott was on the mission as a precautionary measure, ready to provide medical backup. Since he was still a PTMC doctor, Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) gave him the green light to treat the injured officer. The team was grateful for the extra pair of skilled hands as Abbott’s expertise proved to be invaluable despite his unconventional attire.

However, Dr. Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) was taken aback by Abbott’s unexpected presence in the trauma room. But Dr. Robby quickly filled her in on the situation. The team nodded in understanding and focused on treating the officer.

Abbott’s return seems like a reassuring sign that he will remain a part of the HBO Max series, even if his role evolves or is limited in scope.

New episodes of The Pitt Season 2 are broadcast every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max.
