Could the Sinister Six have been peak? Newly revealed concept art reveals villain designs for Andrew Garfield’s scrapped Spider-Man saga.

There’s been a lot of jokes in recent years about sequel bait stingers that don’t go anywhere. Yet out of the entire superhero genre, there is arguably no faceplant more infamous than the final moments of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which teases an entire Sinister Six for Andrew Garfield’s hero to fight in future installments, including villains such as Venom, Scorpion, and Vulture.

Of course, these plans were ultimately scrapped after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 underperformed, with Andrew Garfield being recast as Spider-Man. However, that doesn’t mean work wasn’t done on these designs. Concept artist Tom Zhao recently revealed some never-before-seen concept art from the project’s production, giving fans their best look yet at the Sinister Six that never came to be.

Scorpion’s Scrapped Design

Out of all the concept art posted by Tom Zhao, the pieces getting the most attention seem to be Scorpion (likely due to the recent leak showcasing the characters design in Spider-Man: Brand New Day). According to Zhao, the character was meant to be a “quick targeting” laser meant to shoot down projectiles, likely serving as a foil for Andrew Garfield’s hero shooting webs.

While the designs in the concept art are certainly cool, it’s all but guaranteed that they’d be turned to shreds by general audiences if they ever saw the light of day. Rhino’s mech suit is still meme’d on to this day, and it’s likely elements such as Sandman’s sand generator would’ve been held in the same regard if Andrew Garfield ever did face the villain on the silver screen.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is now streaming and is available for digital purchase.  Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future!
