These days, it is easy to feel like the world is on fire: all of our bills are too high, we’re at war with Iran, the government is…well, you know how stressful politics is right now. Our news cycle usually feels like one sad or depressing story after another. But, there is still an abundance of Black joy and Black excellence in our midst. So we’ve gathered up some of the week’s most cheerful news to help take your happy meter up a notch. Enjoy—and be sure to share this story in your favorite group chat. Every last one of us can use more joy in our lives! (Get last week’s joy here.)
Dynamic Duo The recent conversation between actresses Nia Long and Keke Palmer for Palmer’s, Baby, this is Keke Palmer podcast was unfiltered, hilarious and unexpectedly therapeutic. The two discussed everything from sneaky links (sometimes they talk too much and need to sign NDAs), to clubbing in the 90s to the importance of moisturizing your neck. We need more from this multi-generational duo, ASAP.
Decisions, Decisions… This year College Decision Day fell on May 1 and folks showed out on Michelle Obama’s Internet! From elaborate room reveals to photo shoots to specialty cakes, it was a delight to witness not just students in our communities, but also their villages, celebrate where they are choosing to further their education post-high school. This reel from a North Carolina A&T State University bound scholar is beautiful because it showcases the love, support and pride this young woman has in her corner. It’s only up from here. #AggiePride Congratulations to the entire Class of 2026!
Rock My World These dance moves from The Ghetto Kids, a renowned dance group from the Katwe area in Kampala, Uganda are also breaking the Internet as of late and we’re pretty happy about it. Their precision, energy and confidence would certainly make the King of Pop aka Micheal Jackson proud.
Kappas are Gonna Kappa! After a long work week, you deserve a good chuckle and this does the trick. Seriously, multi-generational love and bonding with the fellas, especially between fathers and sons, is priceless. Shout out to the always smooth brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. for sharing these moments with us.
We’re Blessed to be a Blessing Located in small town of Chatham County, North Carolina, Mt. Herman A.M.E. Zion Church, is giving back to the local community by preparing dinners every Monday for those who are sick, elderly or simply hungry. The small but mighty congregation selflessly pitches in for this initiative called, Community Table Mondays, which has nearly tripled in the number of families fed weekly in less than a year. The hearty and home-cooked meals have included dishes like red beans and rice with cornbread. Additional details on this effort can be found on the church’s Facebook page.
