Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds has been named to receive the Order of Canada, the country’s top civil honor.

Besides his Hollywood acting and producing success, Canadian-born Reynolds was cited by Governor General Mary Simon for his charitable work with Water First Education, Covenant House Vancouver and Sick Kids Foundation, and other initiatives to support under-represented groups.

“His far-reaching philanthropy continues to strengthen communities nationwide,” the Order of Canada citation stated. Earlier this month, New York City-based Reynolds received The Hollywood Reporter’s Producer of the Year award and during an interview said: “I’ve always been proud of being Canadian. I feel like Canada’s one of my parents. It taught me some core values that have come in handy weekly, if not daily, since I left home when I was 18 or 19 years old.”

Other Order of Canada recipients include former Universal Music Canada and Bell Media CEO Randy Lennox. “It is a privilege to work in the creative business that I love. This recognition was not something I could have imagined, and I am humbled to receive this honor,” Lennox said in a statement to THR.

“None of this would be possible if not for the incredible artists, partners and teams I have had the pleasure of working alongside throughout my career,” the veteran Canadian music and media exec added.

Also honored as among the latest 88 Canadians named to the Order of Canada is author Maureen Jennings, who created the Detective William Murdoch novel series later adapted into the long-running The Murdoch Mysteries TV series that stars Yannick Bisson.

Canada also recognized as an Officer folk singer Heather Rankin, who is known for her solo work and being part of iconic The Rankin Family band.
