Universal Pictures has just dropped a chilling new trailer for its upcoming sports-horror film Him and it’s clear this isn’t your typical underdog football story. If you thought training camp was brutal before, wait until you see how Him turns it into a twisted initiation filled with blood, hazing, and mind-bending ritual horror.

Set to a haunting remix of Tupac’s “Hail Mary,” the trailer lays out a surreal and violent ride where the locker room becomes more cult than team.

Directed by Justin Tipping and produced by Jordan Peele, Him stars Cameron Cade as Tyriq Withers, a hotshot rising football star trying to survive the media frenzy and expectations that come with his newfound fame.

But things quickly spiral into something far darker. Withers is mentored by an aging veteran player, Isaiah White, played by Marlon Wayans, who seems more interested in breaking him than building him up.

What starts as a standard training camp quickly turns twisted. At one point, White has a player stand still while a passing machine blasts footballs into his face until he’s bleeding.

Withers watches in disbelief and finally asks, “What the hell are you doing?” But White doubles down with a cold response: “In this game, violence is rewarded. So learn to enjoy it.”

The trailer then descends into a fever dream of fast cuts, chaotic hazing rituals, cryptic symbols, and Withers spiraling out of control. After getting busted up and stitched together, he calls his mom in desperation.

We already knew from the first trailer that Withers’ dream is threatened when he’s attacked by a fan and suffers serious brain trauma. But this new footage leans harder into the surreal horror, suggesting something much darker is feeding off the toxic culture of the sport.

Him also stars Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, and Akeem Hayes, adding even more talent to this unsettling tale. And of course, it’s produced by Monkeypaw Productions, who had the diabolical genius to release the trailer just as football season kicks back into gear.

Don’t expect the NFL to be plugging this movie anytime soon. Him hits theaters September 19 and promises to be a terrifying trip into the violent soul of sports culture.
