President Donald Trump paid his respects to the victims of the Brown University shooting on Sunday, addressing the tragedy during a broader set of public remarks. At least two students were killed and nine others were injured during a Saturday shooting at Brown University, according to law enforcement officials. “I pay my respects to the people. Unfortunately, two are no longer with us, Brown University, and nine are injured. Two are looking down on us from heaven,” Trump said. “To the nine injured, get well fast,” Trump said. “To the families of the two who are no longer with us I pay my deepest regards and respects from the United States of America.”

Later on Sunday, Perez provided additional clarity. He said the person of interest is in their 20s and that investigators are actively working to determine whether the individual has any connection to Brown University. Law enforcement officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and that information will continue to be released as it is verified.
Coventry police, who assisted the FBI in the apprehension, told WPRI that the individual was taken into custody without incident at approximately 3:45 a.m. local time. The arrest occurred at the Hampton Inn and Suites on Center of New England Boulevard. Authorities have not yet announced whether formal charges have been filed.
Meanwhile, campus officials worked to account for students, communicate with families, and coordinate counseling and support services. Vigils and memorial gatherings began forming almost immediately, as the Brown community leaned on one another in the aftermath of the tragedy.
